Upcoming Events 2018

June 7th, 2018

Flamac is travelling around the world to answer your queries and find solutions to your R&D problems.

Do catch up with us at the following upcoming events:

18 September 2018, MRCluster / Flamac – Zwijnaarde, Belgium
Understanding Physical Stability of Formulations

Allnex, Flamac, Nucomat and Procter & Gamble would like to present our joint event:

A Formulation Stability Symposium and the Launch of
the uniquely developed High-Throughput Stability Platform

Context
Liquid formulations are some of the fastest growing product forms, anticipating sustainability and consumer preference trends. They often display complex rheology behaviour and a broad spectrum of physical and chemical properties.

The stability of formulations (such as dispersions, emulsions, etc.) are increasingly challenging with the widening of global market conditions. However, the methods to predict product stability have not evolved at the pace of technological progress. They are largely based on visual inspection of product executions over extended time periods. These approaches are time-consuming, labour-intensive, require large quantities of wasted products and the obtained data are not conducive to predictive modelling of stability. In many projects, they are limiting the pace of innovation.

Therefore, there is a clear need for a better understanding of the physico-chemical interactions and the long-term evolution of the formulated products at an accelerated pace.

Aim of the Symposium
This half day symposium aims to share know-how on stability testing of liquid formulations by bringing together experts from academia and industry.
Additionally, an update on the ongoing R&D project “UPSForm” will be given. This project aims to create a unique accelerated stability testing methodology for liquid formulations by developing and integrating advanced measurement techniques in an automated platform and building modelling approaches to better predict stability.Additionally, for the first time vere, th eunique high-throughput stability platform installed at Flamac will be presented to the formulation community.

Event date: Wednesday 16 May – 1:15 pm to 10:00 pm
Location: Flanders Expo, Ghent

The 6th SIM User Forum will take place on 16 May 2018, starting at 2pm at Flanders Expo – Ghent.

Don’t miss this opportunity to discover new material innovations within the SIM programs and meet up with the materials community in Flanders and beyond!

This year, the SIM User Forum coincides with the Advanced Engineering(link is external) fair, a new trade show concept-based on the creation and production of innovative products.

This makes the SIM User Forum an ideal platform for companies contributing towards the production of inventive products, technologies and electronics.

We aim for maximum interaction with and participation from the industry by foreseeing ample networking time in the afternoon and early evening.

Come and take a stroll on the Materials Market, discuss science & engineering in the poster sessions, listen to our program managers sharing their visions, learn about the latest results of the SIM projects.

8 MARCH 2018 – Zwijnaarde, Gent – BELGIUM 9 am – 1 pm

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND INDUSTRY4.0 TECHNOLOGIES IN FORMULATIONS

The workshop targets industrial and academic players interested in bringing formulation technologies to the next level. Different mechanisms will be leveraged to facilitate the take-up of the resulting topics in the next framework programme. Relevant national contacts and funding agency representatives will participate to support the process.

Key questions to be discussed at the workshop are:

  • What are the main research and innovation needs and how can product design be improved by collaboration of partners along value chains?
  • What is the impact of Digitalisation/Industry 4.0 and Circular Economy on the design, development and manufacturing of formulated products?
  • How can we better share know-how on formulation challenges and solutions between different sectors?

Why organise a workshop on formulation?
Formulation is a key process in the design of a wide range of products, consisting of carefully balanced mixtures of often incompatible ingredients. Despite the importance of this field and the high economic impact on industrial operations, application-oriented research and innovation in formulation technologies are usually not addressed in funding programmes, on both European and national levels.

That is why we are organising a workshop “Positioning of Formulation for future EU Framework Programmes” on 8 March 2018 in Ghent, Belgium. It will not only aim at the development of a clear and structured research and innovation agenda for the upcoming next EU Framework Programme (FP9), it will also give you the opportunity to brainstorm and participate in networking with colleagues in the field.

The workshop is one of a workshop series and will also be organised in the UK, Germany, Sweden and France. It is part of the AceForm4.0 Project, a Coordination Action funded by the EU Commission to provide guidelines on Innovation in EU-Formulation in the frame of Circular Economy and Industry4.0. Please visit www.formulation-network.eu for more information.

AceForm4.0 Workshop: Formulation scale-up in Industry4.0
at the 10th World Congress of Chemical Engineers – WWCE10
organised by Asociación Nacional de Químicos de España

Formulation scale-up in Industry4.0

How Industry4.0 can accelerate and improve your formulation scale-up process.

Programme: Participants will be introduced to the main challenges of formulation scale-up in the chemical industry and discover case studies presented by academics and industrial experts. Next, an Industry4.0 expert will present and develop the potential solutions brought by digital technology to solve formulation scale-up challenges.

During the second part of the workshop, there will be time to exchange ideas and brainstorm in small groups with stakeholders from different formulation sectors (pharmaceuticals, paints, cosmetics, consumer products…). All the input of the participants is gathered by the organising team and could potentially be used to influence future European funded project calls on scale-up issues.

This workshop is part of a European networking project AceForm4.0. The project’s aim is to establish a European formulation community with strong internal connections and generate a common roadmap that could influence European calls for funding in the fields of Industry4.0 (or digitalisation) and circular economy during the next 15 years.
The workshops are one of the key actions in the project and a unique opportunity for participants to open their horizons to new R&D perspectives.

Flamac and DECHEMA have great pleasure in inviting you to participate in the sixth International Conference on Combinatorial Materials Research, to be held in Ghent on 2, 3 and 4 June 2015. The conference will focus on several topics, including materials for energy applications, recycling, novel formulated products, computational materials design and advanced characterisation methodologies.

High-throughput and combinatorial methods offer an efficient tool to vary chemical composition and material processing. Consequently, there is a great deal of interest within the industry in using high-throughput experimentation (HTE) in materials R&D. In addition to oral presentations, there will be poster presentations and one-to-one meetings. Sponsors will get the opportunity to demonstrate their products and services with attendees, hold informal meetings or just give more exposure to their brand via an exhibition stand.

This year’s conference will be a very special edition as Flamac will celebrate its 10th anniversary. We hope that we will have the opportunity to meet you in Ghent, a city that is rich in architecture and culture – and much more besides.

Do check out our conference website for regular updates.

International workshop (11-12 June 2013)

September 19th, 2012

“High-throughput materials development: when time-to-market matters!”

Flamac and Dechema have great pleasure in inviting you to participate in the fifth international workshop on Combinatorial Materials Research. This workshop will focus on several topics, including formulations, coatings, advanced materials and data management.

High-throughput and combinatorial methods offer an efficient tool to vary chemical composition and material processing. Consequently, there is a great deal of interest within the industry in using HTE in materials R&D. In addition to the invited speakers, there will be a poster presentation session. Sponsors can also set up stalls and run small-scale demonstrations.

I hope that this will be a good opportunity to meet you in Ghent, a city that is rich in architecture and culture – and much more besides. I look forward to welcoming you personally in June at the NH Ghent Belfort Hotel.
