FORMAC Pharmaceuticals NV, a spin-off of the Catholic University of Leuven, and Flamac, a division of SIM vzw (Strategisch Initiatief Materialen in Vlaanderen), announce the successful development and validation of a high-throughput platform for the accelerated screening of silica based drug delivery materials. After a 2 years collaborative research project, co-funded by the Flemish government, a unique high-throughput screening platform has been developed. This platform was recently installed and validated at FORMAC’s research facilities in Leuven.
FORMAC Pharmaceuticals NV, owns a number of patents in the field of silica-based drug delivery technologies and the use of this unique high-throughput system allows for the rapid identification of optimal silica-drug combinations.
“This high-throughput system represents a very important step for FORMAC” says Jan Rosier, FORMAC’s CEO ,“Together with the recent announcement of the collaboration with W.R. GRACE, this milestone will enable the company to position itself as a fully integrated silica-based drug development organization”.
Flamac is a research centre in high-throughput methods which supports the chemical and materials industry. It offers its services in either collaborative or multi-disciplinary government sponsored research projects as well as via bilateral contract research. Flamac is a division of the Strategic Initiative Materials (SIM). SIM is subsidised by the Flemish Government. Its mission is to enhance strategic collaboration between knowledge institutes and the materials industry in Flanders.
